The boat we sailed on was Sisca, which funny enough, is russian for "red titties." Our group was made up of French, Germans, British and ourselves. Our captain was Chey, with deckhand Gem and chef Megz. Once we told the crew we worked on boats and we are 1st mates, they put us right to work and they kept us working the entire trip.
We started sailing from Airlee Beach, past Pioneer Pt. and through the Hook Island passage, then south to Dumbell Island where we spent the night. By days end we had travelled over 50 miles. The first night Gem skiffed us over to the beach for little game of sunset beach soccer. It was an intense game, but Oren scored on an assist from me to win the game. Yea Buddy! That night captain Chey showed us how to play the didgereedoo with a 5 foot long pvc pipe, which he later gave to us as a gift. And the stars that night provided an amazing backdrop. It almost seemed as though there were more stars than darkness. Megz pointed out the southern cross constellation, which is on the Australian flag and tattooed on her arm. Unfortantly my camera couldn't get the shot.
The next morning we sailed to Tongue Bay on Whitsunday Island, where we hiked to Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet. Whitehaven Beach is one of the World's Best Beaches, all you need to do is see a pic and you will know why. The sand is incredibly white, made up of nearly pure silica, whcih is a very fine quartz (99.8%). To the right of Whitehaven is Hill Inlet where tidal movements influence the inlet and are continually shifting. From the Hill Inlet outlook we were blown away by its beauty and of course, we took a million goofy pics just so we could say we were there.
I reached the thousand mark this morning, having taken 1000 photos on our trip...ouch. The fish pics are for you Andy! At Blue Pearl Bay, we swam in the Great Barrier Reef. For any of you that don't know, it is that largest tropical coral reef system in the world, covering 2000km or about 70 million football fields. Despite having to wear stinger suits because it is jelly fish season we had an 'epic' time. We saw a huge Elvis fish (Hump-headed mauri Wrasse-2.3meteres), a Loggerhead turtle, Short-finned batfish, Banded Humbugs, Estuary Rockcods, a family of clownfish, a Sea Mullet, and I swam briefly with a Reef Shark under the boat.
On our way back to Airlee, captain Chey told me to take the helm and he let me sail all the way home from Blue Pearl Bay, about 20 miles. Simply amazing, cheers Chey! Chey said we were the best crew he has had in six months and that Oren and I should have been payed for working. We told him that he prob allways says that, but he also came out for a few drinks later and brought his wife, who claimed Chey hadn't come out to the bars in 6 months.
Love that guy!
Well everyone, a few days rest in Airlee, then we are flying back to Manly, Sydney. Those of you that sent addresses...I put your cards in the mail before I left for the Whitsundays. Oren's parents get here in a week and we are going to Tazmania. Wines, cheeses and hiking...yummy!

Hey Gabe! Your blog has been wonderful, but this last post was the best! Your photos are amazing and the energy of the whole adventure has been....well, energizing! Heard a program on the radio all about Ayers Rock or Uluru...decided that you couldn't be in Australia without going...it's an aborginal site, so don't you or Oren get any bright ideas about climbing it! you've got to watch the sunset and get an aborginal guide to give you a walking tour....it's supposed to be one of the wonders of the world. Josh took off for Uganda yesterday so I'm going through withdrawal...so hard to have you guys so far away...I'll never get used to it. But I'm so happy for you...what good fortune you make for yourselves! Stay safe, much love...MOM XXXOOOXXXOOOXXX
Man sounds/looks amazing, and all that time you get to spend with your shirt off!! Bah, that big shining thing in the sky in your pictures is very strange, but entrancing. Also, i think you are looking at wikipedia while you blog because you have too many facts.... which means, I know you hate to hear this, but you're sounding like me. :D

My Dearest Brosefs-
So glad to read about your awesome travels again man, I am insanely jealous, but at the same time, having a blast here.
Alli and I went up to meet the "suspect" a couple weeks ago and quickly learned he was no theif. He lived in Kapalua and had a garage full of toys; dirt bikes, surf boards, ATV, Mercedes convertible, and yes, a almost brand new carve board. Once we say his little kid we knew why he was trying to cheaply liquidate some of his toys, so I passed off the $200 bones and away we went, to start breaking in the newer, better board. I think it's safe to say it has been adequately broken in already and it is ready (as are Ben and I who have been KILLING it lately) for your carve boarding return. New hills await us, my friend.
Ben and I have been hitting the gym religiously. We've been pumping up on muscle milk and hittin the weights, for different reasons, though, I think. You see, Ben has gotten himslef into quite a nice girly situation lately and wants to bulk up/tone up for that reason (more about this in the subsequent paragraph), and I just want to put some meat on my scrawny body (down to 158 lb's...yikes). So aside from the regular surf sesh (Ben just bought an impulse-buy new long board at Hi-Teck), carving, working, and gyming, it's safe to say we're still KILLING it here.
Lastly, I'll say that Ben has filled in nicely in your absence, your bed that is hehehe...not really, but kind of. I'll keep it short because it is still a bit of a precarious situation, but he persued and met a super-cool chica that works on Scotch Mist, they've (and really we've, as I've been wing man many, many times already) hung out a ton over the last two weeks, doing everything from hot tubbing and water sliding at the Hyatt, to midnight innertubing off of Kaanapali, to movie nights. I'm stoked for the guy, and you should see his face when he talks about her, he's totally sprung, it's great. Well that's what's crackin here in a nut shell brosef. I'm sure we'll share many more stories upon your return and I can't wait for that.
Went to bikram yoga with Jill and Sinclair this morning and headed to the ol' gym now, but I'm sure your day is going to be much, much better.
Aloha mates!
